Tees Valley Wheelchair Sports Club is a club with a long tradition. For us, it's not all about serious training: we love it when our teams win, but we're just as enthusiastic about our groups that
simply meet for fun.
We don't differentiate between our members. Anyone is welcome to join us. Our qualified coaches are team members just like anyone else and will be happy to tell you more about the sports activities we offer and help you find the place that's right for you.
We're always happy to welcome new members who are interested in joining in with club activities, helping us organise events or projects and being part of our community.
The original club was set up in 1996 and were called the Teesside Lions, however the club merged with a Newcastle Team and wheelchair basketball was lost in the Teesside area. The old club produced Paralympians like Terry Bywater and Lee Fawcett, and was also a regular training ground for Paralympic superstar Dame Tanni Grey Thompson.
Now the club has been re born and is better than ever! We now offer a range of sports and not just wheelchair basketball.
We love welcoming New Members so please come along and give sport a try!
With our focus on wheelchair and disability sports, we've aim to gradually increase our range of activities over the coming years in line with trends and fitness options for disability sport. We can offer you the right team and group for your chosen sport.
Wheelchair sports are dominated by a combination of different movements. Speed, speed of mind, strength, reactions, determination – all these activities can form part of wheelchair sport. Tactics
and team spirit are equally as important.
With help from our partners our groups train for a wide variety of sports, including:
